Hanwoong obtained his PhD in Environmental Engineering at UNIST (South Korea), specializing in waste valorization. Hanwoong is currently working on electrochemical carbon capture and conversion for valuable products and nutrient recovery.

Luisa was working on wastewater nitrate remediation and exploring electrochemical C-N bonding. She is part of the CASFER center.

Dr. Dou worked on electrocoagulation as part of the DOE NAWI project. He completed his PhD with Dr. Xing Xie in Environmental Engineering at Georgia Tech. He is currently working for Boston Consulting.

Carlos was conducting thermodynamic analyses on electrochemical systems for distributed fertilizer production. Carlos’s work is funded by the National Science Foundation and the Brook Byers Institute for Sustainable Systems. He is currently a postdoc at Stanford University.

Erin Phillips

PhD student in Chemistry, 2020-Present

Erin’s project addresses difficulties associated with lignin valorization, which includes controlling the isolation of lignin from the original irregular lignocellulose structure and depolymerizing lignin into aromatic monomer units via mechanocatalysis. These aromatics can further be valorized as renewable sources for the creation of biofuels and other green chemicals. Erin is co-advised with Carsten Sievers.

Po-Wei is examining reaction engineering and catalyst benchmarking for decarbonized ammonia production. Po-Wei’s work is a member of the NSF CASFER ERC, and his work is funded through Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.

Danae is investigating materials and mechanisms for electrified catalysis of lignin and organic matter, with a focus on understanding C-N catalysis. Danae is part of CASFER and funded by the Renewable Bioinstitute at Georgia Tech.

Hyuck is a PhD student in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. Hyuck is part of the Center for Advancing Sustainable and Distributed Fertilizer Production (CASFER) NSF -Engineering Research Center. He will be working on electrochemical separations for nutrient production.
